Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has declared his intention to contest for the 2027 presidential election under the Allied Peoples Movement party.
The Governor made the declaration at the PDP-APM unity mega rally held on Thursday at the Mapo Hall, Ibadan, ahead of the general election next year.
Addressing supporters and party members, Governor Makinde, in his speech, said, “I, Oluseyi Abiodun Makinde FNSE, announce my candidacy for the position of the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.”
In recent weeks, appointees of the Oyo State Governor and elected officials have resigned their membership of the Peoples Democratic Party amid growing speculations about the possible defection of the Governor to the Allied Peoples Movement.
It would be recalled that the Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, also recently defected from the People’s Democratic Party to the Allied People’s Movement, citing his decision as a strategic move aimed at ensuring political continuity and electoral success.
The Oyo State Governor is the latest aspirant who has signified his interest to contest in the 2027 election.
Former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, and Mr Peter Obi are also contesting on the platform of the African Democratic Congress and Nigeria Democratic Congress, respectively.
